Wellington city council propose to spend an extra half a million dollars next year on cycle ways. But half of that is on “exploring options” and administration.
The Council website says “Cycling network improvements – $250,000 to seek feedback, explore options and develop a work programme, plus another $250,000 to design and carry out cycleway improvements. This is in addition to funding already budgeted for cycling in our Long-Term Plan.”
I have nothing against cycle ways but I do question why half of the new spending would be spent on bureaucratic report writing. In any case shouldn’t the Council have done its consultation, and considered its options for cycleways, before it spent the money already allocated for this purpose?
