The All Black’s 8-7 victory over France this weekend demonstrated what it takes to win world cup rugby finals – experience, tenacity, accurate kicking and a determination to win. Graham Henry, Ritchie McCaw, Piri Weepu, and the rest of the AB team gave New Zealand something to celebrate this weekend in a year which has been testing for many New Zealanders. However, the same resilience that helped the AB’s to victory on Sunday night is the resilience that helped kiwis endure the Canterbury earthquakes, a mining disaster and now an oil spill. The 2011 RWC has made a significant contribution to building connectedness as a country. That makes it worthwhile.
As the team celebrates the street parades they should look back on a job well done and enjoy the moment. This week New Zealanders can take pride in having taken on the world and won.
